Paul Miskimins
Paul Miskimins was born in Wessington Springs and raised in Mitchell, earning his degree from the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. He owned and operated a dentistry practice in Mitchell for 38 years before retiring in 2017. He previously served in the SD House (2019–2022) before winning the District 20 Senate seat in November 2024.
Why they’re
Sensible
Miskimins brings a small-business owner's perspective and decades of community investment in Davison County to the Senate. His opposition to the 2026 eminent domain constitutional amendment — arguing it would hollow out rural South Dakota's economic development potential — puts him at odds with many property-rights advocates and is a meaningful policy divergence worth scrutiny. His emphasis on rural health investment and agricultural generational transfer reflects genuine rural priorities. His cooperative, institution-minded tone is steady but occasionally dismissive of constituent concerns on eminent domain.
Key positions
“In these often difficult days, let us pull together with South Dakota pride, grit, determination, and cooperative effort to build a better future for this great state.”
“They magnified those dangers greatly and put fear in the people of South Dakota, which is very offensive to not tell the truth on your side of the bill.”
