Kari Shanard-Koenders
Kari Shanard-Koenders (R.Ph., M.S.J.) is a retired pharmacist and longtime executive director of the South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy who is running as a Republican for the South Dakota State Senate in District 12 in 2026. She was elected treasurer of the South Dakota Federation of Republican Women in 2024 and is the daughter of former State Senator George Shanard, who served 18 years in Pierre from 1975 to 1992. Shanard-Koenders filed her nominating petition in late March 2026.
